What Causes Loneliness?

Limit Social Media Use

Instead of scrolling through feeds, prioritise face-to-face conversations and meaningful connections with friends and family or use the time away from social media to try and form new real-life connections. Setting specific times for social media use can also help create a healthier balance.

Practice Self-Compassion

Being kind to oneself is essential in combating loneliness. Recognise that loneliness is a common experience and that it’s okay to feel this way. Practicing self-compassion can help reduce feelings of shame and isolation, making it easier to form new connections.

Keep in Contact

Sometimes, simply contacting others can make a significant difference. Whether it’s a phone call, text or invitation to meet up, taking the initiative to connect can strengthen relationships and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.
